Free Business Cards.

A gift enclosure card designed by me.

A blog named True Adventures in Money Hacking, the official blog for Tired of Being is running a is giving 250 free business cards, along with free UPS shipping,  to a lucky winner.  There are several ways to use these cards.  For business, obviously. Calling cards. Enclosure cards.  Personal cards to hand out instead of scribbling your phone number on a ripped-out piece of check.

I’ve used before.  I designed Big J’s business cards for his realty business.  They were reasonably priced and I found the website easy to use as far as designing and ordering the cards.

If you are interested in entering this contest, click here to read the instructions on how to enter.

Good Luck!

PS – One day soon, I’ll be introducing a line of postcards, notecards, enclosure cards, etc., that I’ve been designing and creating.  The card at the top of this post is one of the enclosure cards.

Box Tops, Please.

In the last few posts, I’ve been talking about my friend, Joe, who has a teaching situation in which he has to supply his classroom in order to teach his students in the way he feels is most effective.  Schools can always do more and do better with more finances.  General Mills has a program called Box Tops for Education.  Hundreds of items such as Cheerios, Hamburger Helper, Kleenex, Betty Crocker, Viva, Chex, and Hefty have a symbol somewhere on the package that looks like this:

This small square is worth 10 cents.  You put a bunch of those together and they make $1.00, then $2.00, then $10.00.   At the school Little J attends, they turn the box tops in once a month, which looks something like this:

Products you probably use every day can do double duty: feed your family and support your kid’s education.  I think it’s easy to collect them; I keep a baggie in a drawer and throw the box tops in it as soon as I cut them from the packaging.  Our school sends home a sheet to tape the box tops on. I do that while I’m watching TV.  Guess what? I just made the school $3.00.

Contact your Parent-Teacher Association and see if this program is being used.  If you don’t have anyone currently involved in being educated, I would be so happy to take those Box Tops off your hands.  I’ll even pay your postage.  Copy of DSCF0027Would it help for you to know that the winning class gets a special treat each month and Little J would love for his class to get the treat???  Pretty Please???  How can you say no to this face?

Moody Monday.

Monday can be the exciting start of a new week, or a bummer because the weekend was great and over too fast.  It can start slow until your first cup of coffee or you can hit the ground running.  Thus, my Moody Mondays.  I’m going to display a photograph that I’ve taken and you can comment on your mood as you study it.

You Know What Happens When You Assume…..

Who hasn’t fussed at their child, or their spouse, or themselves about not reading the directions or instructions?

Well, today I am fussing at myself.

The OfficeMax giveaway of $1000 of schoolroom supplies does not end until this coming Sunday, October 11, midnight PDT.  That means you can still go to Mom It Forward and nominate Joe and his Superstars for the giveaway.

Be sure to READ ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS of how to nominate Joe.

Cleaning for a Reason.

Unfortunately, breast cancer and I are not strangers. She and I have never had direct contact, but she has gotten up in the grill of some of my favorite ladies. For starters, my mom, who is a 6 yr survivor. Both my maternal and fraternal grandmothers. My mom’s sister. My mom’s niece who was my first cousin. Pam. I adored her. Two second cousins (sisters) on my dad’s side.  My dear friend Patricia who had Inflammatory. I’m still not over that one. My dear dear friend B who has dealt with it twice. A co-worker.  My sister-in-law lost her mother to breast cancer at way too early an age. As you can probably guess, I am always looking over my shoulder to see if she’s caught up with me since she’e been so cozy with many of my family.Animated Pink Ribbon
And that’s just breast cancer. Let’s not talk about my loved ones who have battled lung cancer, ovarian cancer, brain cancer, lymphoma, colon cancer. Cancer. Cancer. Cancer. I’ve watched these friends and family go through all sorts of treatment. The illness and treatments are so disruptive to family life, and it can be hard to keep up with little details like cleaning the toilet and dusting the shelves. Well, through a friend (thanks, DS) I found out about a blessing of a service. It is called Cleaning for a Reason.  CFAR (my made up name, not theirs) is a nonprofit which offers free professional housecleaning and maid services to improve the lives of women undergoing treatment for cancer. Any kind of cancer, not just breast cancer. To qualify for Cleaning for a Reason, a woman undergoing cancer treatment is put in touch with the foundation to become qualified. The patient’s doctor supplies a statement to the foundation, who in turn contacts the local cleaning service who then sets up an appointment with the patient for her first free cleaning. The service is available once a month for four months. There are cities and towns all over the country that participate. For more information and to see if help is near you, go to

I hope you will share this information with your friends and family by email, Facebook, and Twitter. Maybe write your own blog post to get the word out that there are people who want to help make a cancer patient’s life easier. And if you know of an organization, group or individual who is supporting those going through treatment, post it here in my comments. This information can be of invaluable help to those who are hurting, and literally, fighting for their lives.

I wrote about The Army of Women here, if you want more information on breast cancer research.  They need women to participate, whether or not you have had breast cancer.
