Wordless Wednesday. 8-18.

From Answers.com: On Wednesdays all over the internet, bloggers post a photograph with no words to explain it on their blog. Hence the ‘wordless’ title. The idea is that the photo itself says so much that it doesn’t need any description.

Philips Digital Photoframe + Regifting

One of the fun aspects of blogging is getting to meet other bloggers, both physically and virtually.  One blogger who makes me laugh and is very friendly (and loves Dr. Pepper) is ScrewedUpTexan.  Well, you gotta’ love her just because she’s from Texas and drinks Dr. Pepper, but I’m becoming a fan of her writing and humor.

Texan recently wrote a post about regifting and is actually hosting a giveaway of a regift.  But a good regift.  She is giving a Philips Home Essentials 7 Inch Digital Photoframe.  Don’t worry, she’s not giving it away because it’s old and worn out or broken. It’s new and still in the original box.  She already has a digital photoframe, so she wanted to share with the blogosphere.

Philips Home Essentials 7 Inch Digital Photo Frame

  • Brown designer frame; made of real wood

You can throw your name in the hat for a chance to win the photoframe.  These are ScrewedUpTexan’s requirements to enter.  Don’t leave comments on my blog. You MUST go to ScrewedUpTexan’s blog to enter:

1.) Confess! I want to know if you have ever regifted a present. You don’t have to tell me what it was, but the more juicy the details, the better reading for me. Confess by leaving a comment on ScrewedUpTexan’s regifting blog postYou MUST answer this question in order to be eligible to win even if your answer is no that you’re not a cheapwad like us.

For extra entries (completely optional) do one or more of the following and leave a SEPARATE comment for each telling me what you did:

I Continue to Heart Coupons.

coupon2In an earlier post, I introduced my love of couponing and said I would be sharing some great websites that help with my money-saving shopping trips.

One of the sites from which I get daily, sometimes multiple daily, emails alerting me to great savings is

Deal Seeking Mom.

Deal Saving Mom’s tagline is Real Deals for Real Moms.  If you’re a fake mom or a real dad, or just are interested in saving money, I’m sure she’s fine with you coming by her site also.

Tara, aka, Deal Seeking Mom (DSM), has great tips on coupons for restaurants, grocery shopping, online shopping, clothing and household shopping; just about anything on which you want to save money.  Each week she publishes deals at Walmart, CVS, Walgreens, etc., and shows you how to match up manufacturer, store and internet coupons with the store deals to get the biggest bang for your buck.  Here is an example of  Walgreens’ deals that Tara recently posted on her website.

DSM at times offers great magazine deals.  I was able to purchase two years of All You Magazine for a crazy price.ay_2rf2388bmcc0609_allyou_cover
She’ll let you know when Amazon or other websites are having good deals on magazines.  I like to order directly from her if possible.  I’d rather give my money to a stay-at-home mom who’s figured out how to use her blog for fun and profit than to Amazon.

Forums are another feature on Mom’s website.  You can exchange couponing information, ask questions, find out how others handle their shopping trips by combining coupons and sales, etc.  If you are into giveaways, there are many, many, many websites that have giveaways each week; you can try to win everything from gift cards to kitchen gadgets and appliances to books to services.  Each week DSM has the Giveaway Gathering.  Bloggers post their giveaways for the week, then you click on the links that sound interesting to you and enter.  Usually entering the giveaway consists of leaving a comment on the bloggers site, perhaps subscribing to the bloggers updates, twittering about the giveaway, etc.

Tara is one of Walmarts 11 Moms.  Walmart has partnered with “mom blogs”, money-saving blogs, green mom blogs, etc., to see how Walmart can serve those blogging communities and their readers, how to get Walmart’s message out using social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, etc.  Who better to consult than the women who day-in and day-out interact with people all over America and have up-to-the-minute info of The Latest goings-on inside the internet.

One last cool feature.  A coupon database.  Coupons are listed with their value, expiration date, source of coupon.  You can sort the lists to help you search for particular coupons and what insert they were in, or see if printable coupons are available.  coupon3

All right, that’s my discussion on couponing for today.  If you have favorite coupon/money saving sites, share with us in the comment section.

Happy Money Saving!

Fat Cyclist

Ok, please don’t be offended.
That is the name of a blog I read.
Fat Cyclist.

Again, I don’t remember how I found this website but I am a regular reader.  Not to read about his cycling, which is interesting but not my thing.  I read to find out about his wife Susan who has been fighting cancer.  Fatty has taken his love for his wife and cycling and raised a ton of money for Lance Armstrong’s Livestrong Foundation.  All while taking care of Susan and their four children, working full-time and dealing with what Life has thrown at them.

This morning, Fatty posted that Susan is not doing well.  They had a rough day yesterday.  Please join me in praying for Fatty, Susan and their family.  And if you would like to help him raise money to fight cancer, read more on the website and see if you are a fit for anything.  If you have friends who actually like to ride bikes, forward this post on to them and see if they would like to join Fatty.

This is some of what is good about the blogosphere.  Thanks, my friends.

Talking Trash

One of the reasons I have long been drawn to the blogosphere is the sense of community I see between bloggers.  I see them writing about each other.  I see them getting on planes and going to stay with people they didn’t know before they started blogging.  They share their hurts and fears, their celebrations, their family life, their parenting flops and successes, their single lives, their everydayordinary lives.  I can keep up with the children/relatives of college buddies,  read discussions on how to save money, find where and what to shop, study what to wear,  discover different ways of cooking.  They share their faith and their  interests which become passions and passions which become their life work.

Well, I got to meet my first celebrity blogger a couple of weeks ago.  Don’t ask me how I found Deb of Talking Trash fame.  Some blogger I read put out the SOS that Deb’s new granddaughter needed prayers in the worst way.  Bella was born very prematurely and she was immediately surrounded by prayers from blogging friends all over the country.  Then The Junk Sistas organized a raffle and asked bloggers to donate something they created, drew, sewed, thunk up, whatever.  Tickets were sold online and $2500 was raised to help with Bella’s medical expenses.

The picture below was taken at the grand opening of Winnie and Talulah’s, an antique/trash/treasure grouping of vendors in downtown Athens, TX.  We were in town to celebrate my MIL’s birthday and when I realized that I would be in town the same weekend as the grand opening, I was so excited.  Meeting Deb was so cool.  I walked up, took her hand and introduced myself by saying, “You don’t know me, but I’ve been praying for Bella.”  Immediate hugs and tears.

Deb and I got to visit for a few minutes about blogging and I told her I have wanted to have my very own blog for quite a while but was afraid to make the plunge.  I didn’t know what I would say, who would want to read me, what if no one in the blog community likes me?  She told me to just dive right in, that I would find my voice the more I wrote, that bloggers are nice folks and I could come on in and be a part of the fun.  If they are all as nice as Deb, I’m in!  I am interested in finding out if there is a defining quality about folks who blog – do we need more attention than normal, is it an inexpensive way to be creative, are we talkers by nature and finally can talk all we want by blogging?   I think it’s fascinating to see all these writers coming out from behind their computers and meeting each other, going on trips to have girls weekends together, go into business together, raising prayers for those they don’t know.  Is this the new Mr. Rogers Neighborhood?  I want to hear your thoughts on this…….

Deb is a vendor at the Round Top Antiques Fair and sets up near Zapp Hall, so I’ll get to see her in the fall when I work at Royers (if I get to work again).   In the meantime, go by her blog and say hello, read about Bella, and tell her Lone Star Lifer sent you.

In the picture: That’s Jenn, Bella’s mama on the left; Cat Daddy, Deb’s hubby; me squeezed in by Cat Daddy; and Deb the Celebrity Blogger.
Meeting my first Celebrity Blogger!      Peace to all. P
